Drywood Termites

These termites are more of a coastal concern but increasingly we have more and more of them here in the Sacramento valley. These access our homes through damaged wood and bare wood members. We encouraged homes be inspected about every three years for these and other wood destroying organisms. These termites are active all year long but activities increase during warmer parts of the year. A home owners first sign is often frass piling up around windows or near baseboards. Before cleaning it up get an inspection.

This may be the only sign of what is happening behind the walls. The termites are kicking out the frass (fancy way of saying termite poop) to make more room in there wood for there activities. Drywood termite frass looks a lot like sand. The good news is what you are seeing may also be wood shaving from construction or from ants.
